چکیده
Abstract. Classical numerical models for the global atmosphere, as used weather forecasting or climate research, have been developed conventional central processing unit (CPU) architectures. This hinders employment of such on current top-performing supercomputers, which achieve their computing power with hybrid architectures, mostly using graphics units (GPUs). Thus also scientific applications are restricted to lesser computer CPUs. Here we present development a GPU-enabled version ICON atmosphere model (ICON-A), motivated by research project quasi-biennial oscillation (QBO), global-scale wind in equatorial stratosphere that depends broad spectrum atmospheric waves, originates from tropical deep convection. Resolving relevant scales, few kilometers size globe, is formidable computational problem, can only be realized now supercomputers. porting ICON-A, specific configuration needed project, first step GPU architecture Piz Daint at Swiss National Supercomputing Centre and second JUWELS Booster Forschungszentrum Jülich. Variant Translators for Version 9 of Icon
A → B is a popular and effective means of implementing A, given an implementation of B. B is referred to as the target language. Ratfor [1] is perhaps the best known and most widely used example of this technique, although there are many others. In some cases A is a variant of B. An example is Cg [2], a variant of C that includes a generator facility similar to Icon’s [3]. Cg consists of C and ...

The Icon programming language [1] is fairly stable now, although refinements and new features are added occasionally [2]. The implementation of Icon, on the other hand, is still changing constantly. Besides changes made to support new features of the language, changes are made to correct errors, improve performance, increase portability, accommodate the requirements of new compilers and operati...

Icon is a high-level programming language with extensive facilities for processing strings and structures. Icon has several novel features, including expressions that may produce sequences of results, goal-directed evaluation that automatically searches for a successful result, and string scanning that allows operations on strings to be formulated at a high conceptual level. Icon also provides ...
